About Us

That Was Then... This Is Now

Anchor Industries, founded in 1892, began as a small riverboat supply house located on the Ohio River. Anchor Supply Company, as it was known then, furnished oil, groceries, paint and other supplies to the steamboat trade. Due to a growing demand for water-proof covers, Anchor’s founder, Louis A. Daus, added canvas goods to the line of merchandise. Today, with 300 skilled workers and over 350,000 square feet of production capacity in Evansville, Indiana, Anchor is one of the world’s most respected producers of commercial tents, canopies, awnings, safety pool covers, bags, cases and contract sewn items.

Throughout its long history, Anchor has pioneered numerous industry-changing innovations including vinyl tent technology and aluminum frame tents. The Fiesta frame tent system created a whole new market when it was introduced in 1968 while the Century high peak tension tent has become synonymous with the term “wedding tent” in a bride’s vocabulary. In addition, Anchor remains one of the leading manufacturers in outdoor amusement products including a broad variety for the carnival market. A sampling of illustrious highlights includes:

  • Creation of the Great American Flag in 1980 – at the time the largest ever measuring 411' x 210' and weighing nearly 7 tons
  • Awarded the 1988 Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year Award for the six-state Chicago Region V
  • Awarded Outstanding Value Engineering on military Temper Tent contracts
