Job Purpose:
They are responsible for interpreting project blueprints, designing programs and setting up machines to produce the components outlined in the program. They must perform test runs and make adjustments until the resulting product meets blueprint specifications. CNC Programmers are also charged with performing machine maintenance and cleaning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A wide variety of product knowledge and experience is needed for this position including the following skills and abilities: read and understand detailed work orders and specifications, identification of all parts, understanding of geometry and the inventory process.
- Lead and mentor a team of CNC engineers and operators.
- Oversee CNC machining operations and ensure the quality and precision of products.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures on CNC machines ensuring the machines cleanliness and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure maintenance of quality standards and specifications.
- Monitor tooling wear and perform tool changes adjusting feeds and speeds per job requirements.
- Set-up, maintain and modify machines with attachments, fixtures or specialized tooling to achieve different production capabilities with optimal outcome.
- Maintain and upgrade CNC machinery and equipment as necessary.
- Measures work piece for conformance to specifications and notifies VSL of discrepancies.
- Buffing and assembly operations required.
- Create and perform edits to programming as needed. (Required)
- Setup machine and coordinate with material handler, all subcomponents are staged prior to starting next order, to reduce downtime between jobs.
- Record production output and machine issues.
- Meet production goals with regards to cycle time, quantity, and quality.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline production processes.
- Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
- Use CNC modules to design materials based on blueprints or programmed command sequences and operate some manual operations.
- Inspect all finished products for accuracy and uniformity to ensure quality standards are met

- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Value Stream Leader.
- Step into any job within the department to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of practical CNC experience, including familiarity with programming and interpreting CNC software as well as CAD and CAM software
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of CNC programming and maintenance.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Education/Experience:
Must be at least 18 years old with a high school degree or GED. Degree preferred but not required.
Specific Job Skills Required:
- Ability to interpret prints and drawings
- Ability to understand and program G-code
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and follow established procedures
- Basic programming skills preferred
- Excellent organizational and planning skills

Relationship and Roles:
- This position will report directly to Value Stream Leader.
- This position will instruct, direct and other forms of heavy interaction with all team members within the department.
Work Environment/Safety:
Climate controlled environment. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Overall, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, however, on some instances, this job may require the wearing of a variety of PPE that will be provided to the team member. If PPE is necessary, the team member will be mandated to wear it.
