Job Purpose:

Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products. Will be required to meet productivity goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This classification of job is an entry level.  The individual in this position will be learning all aspects of shipping, receiving and hauling to become fully cross-trained.

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
  • Communicate with employees, within or outside of the department, to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices, such as hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins.
  • Pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and record keeping purposes.
  • Load/unload trailers
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping and storage.
  • Works cooperatively with all co-workers to achieve common goals; communicating effectively and sharing information and resources appropriately.
  • Keep work area neat, clean and organized.
  • Responsible for monthly test counts.
  • Required to work annual inventory.

Occasionally or as Needed

  • Ability to work overtime as needed; shift is over when work is completed for the day.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management and Supervision.

Education/Experience:

Prefer high school graduate or GED. One year of general work experience.  Would prefer some related work experience but will be trained on the job for this position.

  • Must be able to prove regular and predictable attendance.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and the mission of the Company.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders and specifications.
  • Ability to work with basic math.
  • Ability to interpret and follow directions on a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Prefer experience but must become licensed for fork truck and electric lift.
  • Driver’s license required, prefer CDL license.

  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs. or more with assistance, bending, pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs. or more with assistance, cervical twisting, torso twisting, handling/grasping, and fingering/feeling.
  • Occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, driving, climbing and crawling.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust/focus.

Relationship and Roles:

·     This position will report directly to Assistant Traffic Manager.

·      This position will interact with all levels of Anchor employees.

Work Environment/Safety:

The warehouse is not climate controlled; shipping area is, however, large doors are opened frequently allowing outside weather conditions to affect conditions of climate-controlled area.  While loading or unloading trucks, will be exposed to outside weather conditions (hot, humid in summer/cold, damp in winter).  Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Overall, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, however, on some instances, this job may require the wearing of a variety of PPE that will be provided to the employee.  If PPE is necessary, the employee will be mandated to wear it.
