Job Purpose:

To provide strategic product direction and develop engineering support for outdoor shade and structure products. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and optimize effective engineering solutions that are manufacturing friendly and cost-effective distinguishing Anchor as a “market leader”. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of innovative products that will have a significant impact on the market. As a Product Design Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring ideas from concept to reality, ensuring that our products meet the highest quality standards and exceed customer expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Experienced in developing Product Roadmaps and creating the implementation plans.
  • Can develop engineering specifications and maintain change management practices.
  • Supports product installation through consultation, trouble shooting, and training.
  • Supports estimating and risk analysis in customization and sales inquiries.
  • Ability to work outside of and in addition to normally scheduled hours as required.
  • Able to navigate change and transformation with an open mind.
  • Can strengthen engineering functions and share knowledge.
  • Seeks partnership and collaboration as a pathway to drive customer satisfaction.
  • Has knowledge in lean systems, value engineering and error proofing.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with Anchor values.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management and Supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in designing and developing aluminum and steel shade structures such as 2 post, 4 post, cantilever, shade sails, shared post structures.
  • Experienced in CAD systems (AutoCAD, Inventor) to create detailed drawings, solid models and assemblies.
  • Has knowledge of configuration management and ERP systems.
  • Understands how to leverage suppliers in product development, external / internal testing, validation plans and design verification.

 

Education/Experience:

Technical degree in engineering preferred.  Minimum (5) years designing and developing shade structure products.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a production environment with production employees as needed.
  • Ability to work in the field assisting with or physically setting up Anchor products. This portion of the job could be extremely physical, with even heavier lifting involved. Working in the field would also create exposure to the weather.

 

Education/Experience:

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, documents, and regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively establish rapport, present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and co-workers.  Skill and ability to meet people and listen. Good communication skills are mandatory.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

  • This position requires sitting for a large portion of the workday.
  • Keyboarding.
  • Occasional standing, lifting up to 20 lbs., bending, stooping, squatting, pushing/pulling, kneeling, crouching, cervical twisting, torso twisting, climbing, crawling and driving.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

 

Relationship and Roles:

  • This position will report directly to Vice President of Engineering
  • Interacts with all levels of Anchor employees.

Work Environment/Safety:

Climate controlled environment.  Machines exposed to would be typical of any office environment.  Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Overall, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, however in some instances, this job may require the wearing of a variety of PPE that will be provided to the employee.  If PPE is necessary, the employee will be mandated to wear it.

Travel Requirements:

Offsite travel is required with suppliers and customers. In some cases, international travel is required for benchmarking, research and development, and supplier development.
