Engineering Cost Analyst

Job Purpose:

The Engineering Cost Analyst position is to lead costing, quoting and pricing for all of Anchor products to achieve profitability and market growth, in alignment to company goals, and business plans. Be an educator and facilitator to raise awareness of the true cost in manufacturing. Demonstrate responsiveness, build market knowledge and serve the sales and operations team in pricing our products correctly.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead quotes for all custom and ETO (Engineering to Order) products.
  • Lead pricing for awnings, pool covers, big tents, clear span, fire shelters, pergolas, permanent warehouses, perfect shade and Funbrella products.
  • Position must be able to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, patterns, installation instructions, bills-of-materials, routings, cycle time data, shopfloor manufacturing methods, and raw material cost information from purchasing.
  • Be responsive to VOC (Voice of the Customer) feedback from sales, suppliers and operations.
  • Give guidance on the most cost-effective manufacturing method to meet customer requirements while maintaining profitability targets (i.e. Sales $ per hour).
  • Maintain the Sales Add-On pricing list.
  • Support the development and maintenance of configuration system data.
  • Must be able to work outside of normally scheduled hours as required when urgent quotes are required by sales.
  • Analyze and prepare charts, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, and reports as needed to improve the quoting process.
  • Apply APS (Anchor Production System) to improve the quoting process. Apply various lean manufacturing tools such as direct observation, DFM (Design for Manufacturing), setup reduction, kaizen, standardization, error proofing and problem solving.
  • Learn how to leverage suppliers, manufacturing methods and market conditions to continuously raise gross margin to impact the plant’s profitability.
  • Escalate and lead large-scale meetings to bring forward risks from engineering, operations or materials – to coordinate and consolidate actions needed in the quoting process.

Education/Experience:

Prefer a college graduate.  Prefer two (2) years of experience with a costing background.

Mathematical Skills:

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.

Reasoning Ability:

Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.  Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.  Needs the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Relationship and Roles:

  • This position will report directly to the Vice President Engineering.
  • This position interacts with all levels of Anchor employees, customers, vendors and others as needed.
