Job Purpose:

Source selection and procurement functions are directly associated with the Company’s needs for designated production and non-production materials.  These products and services are to be secured at competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards for cost, quality, and delivery.  This job is performed independently with minor supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for correct inventory balances for assigned commodities.
  • Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, choosing the best balance of price, quality, and service.
  • Seeks out and develops suppliers when current suppliers are inadequate, often with counsel of the product Engineering and Sales.
  • Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms.
  • Reviews requisitions for proper authorization and validity.
  • Issues purchase order as required, striving to have correct price, terms, quantity, and correct due date.
  • Works with receiving to assure correct item and correct quantity has been received.
  • Resolves quality, quantity, and price issues with suppliers
  • Expedite purchase orders as needed.
  • Evaluates his or her designated suppliers quarterly.
  • Advise Management of any noteworthy supplier or market situations.
  • Establishes a standard cost of all production S.K.U.’s annually (approximately October 1).
  • Establish meetings with potential or existing suppliers as necessary to keep departments informed of any changes of existing parts or materials or information of anything that is new.
  • Coordinate and chair meetings with potential or existing suppliers with any Anchor department.
  • Ability to work outside of and in addition to normally scheduled hours as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management and Supervision.

  • High school graduate or GED supplemented with course work or experience related to the job
  • 4-year degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of purchasing or related experience, including three (3) years of experience MS Word, Excel, and Access, ERP systems, and quality/continuous improvement initiatives.

Language Skills:

 Ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, documents, and regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively establish rapport, present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and co-workers.  Good communication and listening skills are mandatory.  Excellent negotiating skills required.  Must have good phone skills and interact well with others.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate percentages and ratios.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

  • This position requires sitting for a large portion of the workday.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, handling/grasping,
  • Occasional standing, lifting up to 20 lbs., bending, stooping, squatting, pushing/pulling, kneeling, crouching, cervical twisting, torso twisting, climbing, crawling and driving.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust/focus.

Relationship and Roles:

  • This position will report directly to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Interacts with all levels of Anchor employees, customers, vendors and others as needed.

Work Environment/Safety:

Climate controlled environment.  Machines exposed to would be typical of any office environment. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Overall, no Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, however in some instances, this job may require the wearing of a variety of PPE that will be provided to the employee.  If PPE is necessary, the employee will be mandated to wear it.
